System function
The SBS AE-1000 system aims to enhance the control of the grinding machine operator over the process flow.
This system can eliminate "empty travel", monitor wheel collisions, and monitor wheel contact conditions during grinding and wheel repair processes,
At the same time, the following objectives can also be achieved:
• Easy and fast operation
• Optimize grinding machine efficiency
Low installation requirements
System Overview
The AEMS system consists of an electronic control unit and one or two AE sonar sensors.
AE sensors are installed at specific locations on the grinder to detect high-frequency sound waves emitted by the grinding wheel during the grinding or grinding wheel repair process.
By monitoring the level of the emitted sound waves and referring to the known background level at the same frequency, key events that occur during the operation of the grinding machine can be automatically and quickly detected.
These events include: initial contact between the grinding wheel and the grinding wheel dresser or workpiece (idle control), abnormal or severe grinding wheel contact conditions (collision protection)
Or ensure a large or small degree of contact between the grinding wheel during wheel repair or grinding cycle operation (process monitoring). The AE-1000 and control unit display screen report these events through hardware and software interfaces.
CNC control of machine tools can be programmed to use the above information to eliminate idle maintenance time, prevent machine damage caused by component collisions, and monitor the quality of grinding and wheel repair processes.
System installation
The back panel of the AE-1000 system is connected as shown below.
The back panel has two 4-pin circular connectors for connecting AE sensors.
The first sensor (S1) is used to monitor M2 and M1, which can be the grinding process and the finishing process, respectively;
Or two independent monitoring parameter sets for a certain process
The second sensor (S2) is optional and is only used for monitoring M2.
If only one sensor is used, connect to S1.

Installation position of AE sensor
Choose a suitable location to install the sensor on the grinder for testing purposes.
Sensor installationSuitable location
Sensors must be installed on machine castings or other hard machine devices.
Do not install sensors on thinner components that are loosely connected to the machine, such as grinding wheel guards.
The installation point must be flat and able to prevent the intrusion of external substances such as chips.
It is possible to consider removing the paint, but this is not necessary. The key issue to consider when installing sensors is the quality of sound propagation.
Correct positionBeneficial signalofspread
The sensor should be installed on the hard parts of the grinder, so that the high-frequency noise generated when the grinding wheel comes into contact with the workpiece or the grinding wheel comes into contact with the grinding wheel conditioner can be quickly transmitted to the AE sensor,
At the same time, the attenuation of the signal is small. letterSignal loss occurs when signals propagate over long distances within the structure of machine tools, especially through joint nodes of machine components.
The ideal form of AE signal propagation path is a relatively short propagation path, with as few machine components as possible in the path, and all components are hard, sturdy, tightly connected, and firmly joined parts inside the machine.
For the bolts of the sensor, it is recommended to use instant adhesive (Loctite 401 or equivalent) and try several installation positions until the best installation position is found.
AE sensor type
Sensors can be configured in various ways according to safety requirements. The main types of sensors are detailed below. Each sensor type has multiple models, and users must refer to the SBS product catalog for detailed information on all models.

Bolt type sensorThis type of sensor can be directly installed on the machine tool device near the contact point between the grinding wheel and the workpiece or grinding wheel conditioner using screws.
Non contact sensorsThis type of sensor consists of two parts and can be directly installed on the shaft of the grinding wheel or grinding wheel conditioner.
The rotating component is installed on the rotating shaft to receive acoustic emission (AE) signals from the contact of the grinding wheel.
Non rotating components are directly installed opposite rotating components to detect and transmit AE signals to AE monitoring devices.
Fluid sensorThis type of sensor can directly detect AE signals emitted by workpieces or grinding wheels.
The liquid flow (usually filtered machine coolant) is directed towards the target area.Sensors detect AE signals propagated by liquid flow.
Balanced sensor- This type of sensor integrates non-contact mechanical external or internal SBS balancers
AE-1000Product Features:
1. Reducing the grinding idle time can improve the grinding efficiency of the grinder
2. Collision protection - quickly detect the contact status of the grinding wheel at the end, stop the feed in a timely manner, and prevent dangerous grinding wheel collisions from occurring
3Built in precision digital processing algorithms effectively reduce vibration interference caused by environmental interference
4. Real time display of grinding process, which can diagnose grinding status based on grinding data
5Icon guided user interface, convenient to use
Quick setup guide
Once this setting is completed, the AE-1000 will successfully function as a gap/collision monitor
