The BTD-300 Thunderstorm Lightning Monitor effectively detects cloud cloud and cloud ground lightning. Its reliable detection and ranging capabilities (especially for monitoring cloud cloud lightning, which is much more common than cloud ground lightning) are much more sensitive than other devices that use radio principles. The BTD-300 thunderstorm monitor operates on the principle of quasi-static electricity and can detect charged precipitation and strong electrostatic fields, both of which are signs of lightning occurrence. Based on this, the danger of overhead lightning can be alerted before the first discharge.
By monitoring the electrostatic field at extremely low frequencies instead of using radio channels, the BTD-300 thunderstorm lightning monitoring instrument is almost immune to electromagnetic interference, which is the main reason for false alarms in other lightning locators based on wireless working principles.
