A large number of suspension bridges and cable-stayed bridges are in service in different parts of the world. Steel wire ropes are an important component of such bridges as they carry the main structure of the bridge. They are subject to vibrations caused by wind and traffic, and may be corroded in harsh environments such as rainwater and air pollution. The steel wire rope will also age over time, so it needs to be inspected to prevent accidents. Non destructive testing can be conducted in different ways. Non destructive testing is an effective method to obtain important information about steel wire ropes. Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) is currently recognized as a method for inspecting steel wire ropes. MFL instruments can detect the loss of metal cross-sectional area caused by corrosion and provide the location of internal and external wire breaks for visual inspection.

Inspection of Steel Wire Rope for Bridge Cable/Flaw detector
The MFL detector includes a battery powered base unit, magnetic heads of different sizes, Wintros, and Wintros RTV software. Wintros software can process data after detection, and Wintros RTV software can generate data graphs online.
The basic unit is fixed on the magnetic head, which moves up and down along the steel wire rope to collect data and store it in the basic unit. The magnetic head moves smoothly along the steel wire rope through an electric winch. For magnetic heads with a detection diameter less than 64 millimeters, they can be manually climbed, carried and moved on the bridge deck for operation. The Introns detector can detect steel wire ropes with a diameter range of 6~150mm. The detector moves smoothly on the steel wire rope without damaging the steel wire rope or its protective coating. The basic unit can operate telemetry systems, and remote laptops can receive data and display it online through Wintros RTV software.
We have developed the electromagnetic magnetic head EMH-300 to detect the suspension of parallel strands. This magnetic head is used to detect suspension cables with a diameter of up to 300mm. It can detect one broken strand in a suspension cable with a total of 100 shares.

2. Data storage
The bridge cable steel wire rope detector is compatible with all detection heads, with basic function setting parameters, dual screen real-time display, and data storage. size230 × 85 × 35mm, weight 0.7kg, rechargeable battery power supply, automatic calibration, LMA and LF dual channel synchronous detection, can store up to 32000m of steel wire rope detection data, sound and light alarm function, with universal USB interface.

3. Software data processing
After downloading the dataOn PC, detection curve playback, analysis, zooming in and out, comparison, filtering, cropping, splicing, printing, annotation, report generation, and exporting to Word or Excel can be performed.

5. Testing plan
The bridge cable steel wire rope detector selects appropriate detection heads, fixing methods, and traction methods. It is recommended to use a ground fixed simple winch as the power source for traction, or a dedicated power traction robot can be selected. Simple winch has good economy and simplicity Single stable and reliable, with strong adaptability. Only in special places where winches cannot be used, is the use of powered traction robots considered. Currently, the reliability level is slightly low, and the overall performance in terms of adaptability and endurance is not ideal.
