1、 The necessity of confined space monitoring

According to Article 6.4f of GB 30871-2014 Safety Regulations for Special Operations in Chemical Production Units, confined spaces that may release harmful substances should be continuously monitored; Although hazardous gas analysis has been conducted before the start of confined space operations, toxic and harmful gases may be generated during the operation. Without continuous monitoring of the confined space, the safety of the operators' lives cannot be guaranteed.

According to Article 5.2.3, Clause 9 of GB/T 50493-2019 Design Standard for Detection and Alarm of Combustible and Toxic Gases in Petrochemical Industry, mobile gas detectors should be equipped in places where temporary detection of combustible and toxic gases is required during production and maintenance processes; Wearing a portable gas detector for continuous monitoring of confined spaces, the alarm information cannot be transmitted externally or informed to regulatory personnel. Once the workers are in a high-risk environment, external regulatory personnel cannot take timely rescue measures, greatly increasing the risk of injury or death to the workers.

In June 2020, the Ministry of Emergency Management of the People's Republic of China issued a letter on strengthening the safety risk control of confined space operations, which clearly pointed out that confined space operations are prone to causing major accidents. Limited space operations and on-site rescue must use toxic gas detectors, combustible gas detectors and other detection instruments to continuously detect confined space operations. Supervisors must keep track of the situation at all times, resolutely prevent blind rescue, and avoid the expansion of accident casualties.
