The fine particles that have not been flocculated in the slurry input from the bottom are washed up by the water flow and pass through the filter bed layer. When they collide with the particles in this layer, due to the action of the flocculant, they combine with other particles and sink together, thereby increasing the concentration of the bottom slurry. However, the concentration of the overflow water in the upper layer decreases. Due to the use of the flocculant, the particles are prone to form agglomerates, and the settling speed is greatly accelerated.
