When using the McIlwain tissue slicer, the sample is attached to filter paper or plastic disc (51354) and placed on the operating table, which will work at a preset speed. The slice thickness can reach 1 millimeter. The thickness is pre-set in increments of 1 micron to 25 microns, equipped with a safety limit switch to prevent machine overspeed and rapid recovery. The outer layer is coated with white powder.

Vibration slicer can be used for fresh or fixed animal and plant specimens, and tissue specimens do not need to be frozen or embedded during slicing. The brain and spinal cord tissues of small animals can be cut as thin as 10 microns, while fresh brain, heart, kidney tissues can be cut as thin as 30 microns.
