Fat extractors (Soxhlet extractors) are commonly used in laboratories for extraction. The fat extractor (as shown in the figure) utilizes the principles of solvent reflux and siphon to continuously extract solid substances with pure solvents, which not only saves solvents but also has high extraction efficiency.
Grind the solid material before extraction to increase the area of solid-liquid contact. Then, place the solid substance in a filter paper bag and place it in an extractor. The lower end of the extractor is connected to a round bottom flask containing the leaching solvent, and a reflux condenser tube is connected to the top. Heat the round bottom flask to boil the solvent. The vapor rises through the connecting tube and enters the condenser, where it is condensed and drips into the extractor. The solvent and solid come into contact for extraction. When the solvent level in the extractor reaches the highest point of the siphon tube, the solvent containing the extract siphons back to the flask, thus extracting a portion of the substance. Then the leaching solvent in the round bottom flask continues to evaporate, condense, leach, and reflux, repeating this process to continuously extract the solid material with pure leaching solvent, enriching the extracted material in the flask.
