TBD is a non-contact system that utilizes laser reflection technology. It consists of an emitter that projects a laser beam onto the surface of a rotating tool placed in the inspection position. The complete tool reflects the signal on the receiver, and after filtering out any interruption signals caused by coolant droplets, these signals are processed by an internal electronic unit. On the other hand, damaged cutting tools will not reflect signals to TBD, triggering alarm signals. The laser beam is directed towards the main axis to confirm the inspection position during movement towards the film cartridge, avoiding longer processing time caused by more complex positioning operations.
Flexible TBD can be used for different operating modes:
- The maximum power setting allows TBD to use standard tool breakage detection function to detect tools that are located further away (2 meters or less). When lower tolerances are required, the "low power" mode can be used, which can create smaller beams of light
- Users can choose the signal filtering level. During the tool inspection cycle, coolant droplets can interrupt the beam or remain at the tip of the tool, thereby altering the received signal. The TBD software increases the filtering level by setting the "Hi filter" to obtain a more reliable result. On the other hand, the reason why "low filter" enables TBD to react quickly is because the filter threshold becomes higher
- You can also choose the most suitable spindle speed range
- Fast and reliable knife breakage detection
- Can recognize a wide range of solid coaxial cutting tools
- Easy to install and wire
- Reduce the amount of waste and achieve possible unsupervised production
- Various operation modes with high flexibility can be obtained
