Brief Introduction
The Erichsen wet film thickness gauge from Germany plays an important role in the use and testing of paints and coatings. Film thickness is a decisive factor in determining appearance, protective performance, and durability. The coating is too thin to provide sufficient protection and reduce coverage. Therefore, it is necessary to implement the minimum thickness specified in the technical specifications and ensure the accuracy of these values. On the other hand, excessive coating is the result of using too much paint, which correspondingly increases costs. Moreover, thicker coatings do not always mean improved performance, as they may have a negative impact on drying time. Physical and mechanical properties of coatings
Detailed introduction of Erichsen wet film thickness gauge
The mechanical thickness gauge of Erichsen from Germany has a series of advantages:
Portable, easy to operate, and can also be used by non-technical personnel. The structure is sturdy and the reading is clear at a glance.
Measurement can be performed on any surface. Because it is entirely mechanical, it can be applied to glass, wood, metal, or plastic substrates.
Compared with other types of thickness gauges, mechanical thickness gauges have a better price.application
Used for all flat or uniform surfaces with concave and convex surfaces
Testing principle
The disc-shaped measuring instrument (Figure 1) rolls on the wet film surface. During this process, two rollers roll over the substrate with the center wheel rim (1). When the distance between the wheel rim and the cam is equal to the measured wet film thickness, the eccentric cam (2) will stick to the coating.Design and functionality
The diameter of the hardened and precisely ground stainless steel measuring disc is 50 mm and the thickness is 11 mm. It contains an aluminum freely rotating roller that allows the instrument to roll on the surface. There are 8 different models and measurement ranges available in the order information.
The reading scale is engraved on one side of the disc, and each instrument comes with a box.Measurement program
Measurement 1
Pinch the guiding roller of the instrument with your thumb and index finger, and place the instrument on the testing surface so that the contact point is opposite to the zero line. Gently press and roll the instrument towards the zero line, then lift it up.
Measurement 2 (Verification)
The instrument is placed in position 1, but rotated in the opposite direction until it reaches the zero line.
The wet film thickness is read at the location where the wet film mark appears, and compared with the opposite side to obtain the average value.
