Refrigeration is the process of using a certain method to bring an object or space to a lower temperature than the surrounding environment medium within a certain time and space, and maintaining it within a given temperature range. In order to achieve or maintain a certain low temperature for an object or space, certain technical means and methods must be used to continuously extract heat from the object or space. The technology used is called refrigeration technology.

The process of extracting heat from an environmental medium or object and transferring it to a heating object at a temperature higher than the ambient temperature is usually called heat pump heating. For refrigeration systems that extract heat from environmental media and discharge heat to high temperatures, machines that can alternately or simultaneously achieve both cooling and heating functions are called cooling and heating pumps. From the perspective of energy utilization, this is an effective method of utilizing both cold and heat. The principles and calculation methods of refrigeration cycle and heat pump cycle are similar.
